Landy gets a view
of Soldier Field (Chicago) that most would prefer not to see, as he
slides 150 feet on his head. Landy escaped with minor injuries.
The crash happened
when Jigger Sirois broke the left rear axle on Jack Sims' Chow-Chow
Spl. and power on the right rear turned him left into Landy's path.
The
above photo, by Dick Lubbers, was suppose to be on the front page of the
Chicago Tribune, unfortunately is got bumped for a
bigger story,
when Bob Keegan of the Chicago White Sox pitched a "No-Hitter" at
Comiskey Park (August 20, 1957)

Landy switched helmets from an old fashion
plastic helmet to a state-of-the-art helmet (above)
prior to the
Chicago race. The damage caused by the flip is visible in the
photos below.
